China’s Hu Highlights Corruption Fight at Party Congress - Corruption Currents - WSJ

China opened its 18th Party Congress talking about corruption.

President Hu Jintao, in his last major speech as leader of the Communist party, acknowledged rising public anger over abuses of power by the ruling elite, and warned that not fighting it could cause the fall of the state.

“If we fail to handle this issue well it could prove fatal to the party,” he was quoted by The Wall Street Journal as saying. (A backgrounder on the Chinese Communist Party is here.)
