Judge Tosses Hamas Financing Suit Against Arab Bank - Corruption Currents - WSJ

A federal judge in Brooklyn threw out a lawsuit from an American man shot in the Middle East who was seeking to hold Arab Bank liable for providing services to Hamas.

U.S. District Judge Jack Weinstein dismissed the suit from Mati Gill, a joint U.S. and Israeli citizen, saying in his decision that Gill couldn’t prove Arab Bank played any role in his injury, which was sustained in April 2008 as he accompanied his boss, Israel’s public security minister, on a tour near the Gaza border, according to the complaint.

Gill was hit in the leg and groin by snipers shooting from the Gaza Strip into Israel, and he crawled out of the line of fire until he was evacuated, the complaint said. Following the sniper attack, Hamas, a U.S.-designated terrorism group, claimed responsibility, the complaint said.

But Judge Weinstein said Gill’s suit against Arab Bank had no merit.
