Treasury Announces Series of Iran Sanctions - Corruption Currents - WSJ

The U.S. Treasury Department announced a series of sanctions on Thursday as it looks to crack down on Tehran’s human-rights abuses, support of terrorism and nuclear program.

The action comes as the Treasury also published regulatory amendments (pdf) in Thursday’s Federal Register that were required under Iran sanctions legislation signed into law in August by President Barack Obama.

Under the new transaction regulations, any foreign financial institution caught doing business with any Iranian entity designated by Treasury under its terrorism sanctions authority can face a complete cutoff from the U.S. financial system.

And the U.S. made 17 new designations under three separate executive orders.
