Retired Colombian General Sentenced to 13 Years in US Prison - Corruption Currents - WSJ


A retired Colombian police general was sentenced Friday to 13 years in a U.S. prison after pleading guilty to conspiring to support a terrorist organization.

Mauricio Santoyo was sentenced in Alexandria, Va. He pleaded guilty in August to charges relating to taking bribes from right-wing paramilitary warlords and drug traffickers and providing them with secret information.

Santoyo, according to a Dow Jones Newswires report, was head of security for Colombia’s former president, Alvaro Uribe, during several of the years he was feeding information to criminal gangs and taking bribes worth $5 million.
