OFAC Launches ‘Fuzzy Logic’ Search Tool - Corruption Currents - WSJ

Spelling a name wrong may not cause as many problems as it did previously.

The U.S. Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control announced Tuesday the launch of a new search tool that uses “fuzzy logic” to identify names on its blacklists.

It will run parallel to the traditional search tool for about 30 days, and then replace the old method, Treasury said.

“Fuzzy logic” provides a broader set of results when conducting a name search by using more methods than exact character matches, according to the OFAC notice.
